Care for your LOX
Caring for your LOX
A beautiful wig isn't fragile — it's something to enjoy for a long time. With a little gentle attention, your LOX keeps its shine, its movement, and its shape, wear after wear. Here's everything you need, in plain language, with no guesswork.
Caring for your LOX really comes down to four gentle habits: wash kindly, dry naturally, detangle from the ends, and store with care. Everything below is just the detail — and we're here whenever you have a question.
Start here
Know your fiber
How you care for your LOX depends on what it's made of. Most of the steps below are the same for every wig — but heat and styling are where the difference matters, so it's worth knowing which you have.
Synthetic & heat-friendly
Designed to hold their style beautifully — the curl or wave is set into the fiber, so it bounces back after washing with almost no effort. Standard synthetic won't tolerate hot tools; heat-friendly fibers can take low heat. Always check your style's details before reaching for an iron.
Human hair
Behaves just like the hair growing from your own head — endlessly versatile, can be heat-styled and professionally colored, and rewards a little extra care. It won't hold a set on its own, so you'll style it the way you style your own hair.
Not sure which you have? Check your product page or the card that came with your wig — or send us a photo. We're always happy to help you figure it out.
Step one
Washing your LOX
How often: there's no need to over-wash. For most everyday wear, refreshing your LOX every eight to ten wears is plenty — or sooner if it starts to feel heavy, dull, or weighed down by product. Gentler, less frequent washing means a longer life.
- Detangle first.Gently work through any knots with a wide-tooth comb or wig brush, starting at the ends and moving up. Never wash a tangled wig.
- Use cool water.Fill a clean basin with cool-to-lukewarm water and add a small amount of sulfate-free or wig-specific shampoo. Hot water can loosen the fibers and the cap.
- Soak, don't scrub.Submerge the wig and swish it gently. Let the water do the work — no rubbing, twisting, or wringing.
- Rinse downward.Rinse with cool water, always in the direction of the hair, from roots to ends, to keep the strands smooth.
- Condition the lengths.Smooth a little conditioner through the mid-lengths and ends, avoiding the cap and lace. Leave a minute or two, then rinse.
- Blot dry.Press gently with a soft towel to lift out excess water. Resist the urge to rub.
Step two
Drying
Let your LOX air dry on a wig stand or mannequin head — this holds the cap's shape and lets air move through the fibers. Keep it away from direct sun, radiators, and blow dryers (unless your style is human hair or heat-friendly and you're using low heat).
For curls and waves, simply leave them alone while they dry — the style falls right back into place on its own. Avoid brushing synthetic styles while they're wet.
Every day
Wearing & detangling
A little daily care goes a long way.
- Brush gently, with a wig brush or wide-tooth comb, always from the ends up — holding the root so you're never pulling on the cap or wefts.
- Be kind to the nape. Collars, scarves, and jackets create friction that causes tangling at the back, the most common spot for wear.
- Hands off the lace. If your style has a lace front, handle the hairline and knots gently, especially when wet.
Where fiber matters most
Heat & styling
- Standard synthetic: skip the hot tools. Curling irons, flat irons, and blow dryers can permanently damage the fiber. To refresh the style, a little steam — or simply re-wetting and air-drying — usually does it.
- Heat-friendly synthetic: low heat only. Check your maximum recommended temperature, test a small hidden section first, and use a protectant made for synthetic hair.
- Human hair: style it like your own. Lower heat extends its life, always use a heat protectant, and leave coloring to a professional.
Whatever your fiber, keep heat away from the lace and the knots.
Between wears
Storing your LOX
- For everyday, a wig stand holds the shape and keeps the style fresh.
- For travel or longer storage, tuck it into a satin bag — our reverse satin travel bags are made for exactly this, protecting the fibers from friction and dust.
- Always keep it out of direct sunlight and humidity, and loosely secure long curls so they don't compress.
